EARLY HORIZON
1000 B.C.-500 B.C.

havin de Huantar, located in the northern highlands of Peru, is the most famous ceremonial site associated with the Early Horizon. Chavin represented the first complex society to emerge in the Andes and was centered on a religious movement, the Cult of the Feline. Chavin religious ideas spread throughout Peru and united coastal and highland communities by providing a common artistic and symbolic language. Far-reaching technological advances were made in weaving and metallurgy during this time. Ceramics technology was well established.
